Two settings define how your WhatsApp sales are measured:
attribution, which decides which orders are counted in your Kanal statistics;
UTM tracking, which lets you find your WhatsApp sales in your analytics tools, such as Google Analytics or Shopify reports.
To open them, click your team name, then Settings.
Settings > Attribution
Attribution basis
It sets the event that opens the attribution window after a message is sent:
Delivered: the message reached the customer's phone.
Read: the customer read the message.
Clicked: the customer clicked a link or a button in the message.
The stricter the basis, the fewer orders you attribute, but the more direct the link between the message and the purchase.
Attribution window
This is the period during which an order can be attributed to a message. You can set it from 12 hours to 5 days. It is 5 days by default, which is also the maximum.
Example: with the Delivered basis and a 5-day window, an order placed 3 days after a message was received is attributed to Kanal. An order placed 6 days after is not.
Reporting time zone
It is used to split your statistics by day. Choose the time zone in which you track your business.
Good to know
These settings apply to the Home page and to the statistics of your campaigns and automations.
The change applies immediately to all your statistics, including past periods.
An order has only one origin: the last message the customer received before the purchase. Details are in How does analytics work on Kanal?
Settings > UTM tracking
Once UTM tracking is turned on, Kanal automatically adds UTM parameters to the links in your messages when they are sent: template buttons, carousel buttons and the links of Send Message with button link messages in your automations.
utm_source: editable, "kanal" by default.
utm_medium: editable, "whatsapp" by default.
utm_campaign: filled in automatically with the name of the campaign or automation. It cannot be edited.
Links that already contain UTM parameters are never overwritten: Kanal keeps the ones you added.
No need to add UTMs by hand in your messages: turn on UTM tracking and Kanal handles it. UTM tracking is for your external analytics tools. The statistics shown in Kanal are based on attribution and do not depend on UTMs.
