An approved template can still be edited. You can replace its media or edit its variables without a new review. Only a change to the content goes back through Meta's review.
You do all of this directly in your automation or campaign, from the template node.
Open the automation or campaign that uses the template, then click the template node.
Click Edit. A window asks what you want to edit.
Pick one of the three options below.
Option | What you change | Meta review |
|---|---|---|
Replace the image / video / GIF | The header media | No: immediate effect, the template stays approved |
Edit the variables | The data linked to each variable and its sample | No: immediate effect, the template stays approved |
Edit the content | The template text, or adding and removing variables | Yes: new review by Meta, up to 24 hours |
This method creates a copy that you can edit freely. The original stays in place until you replace it.
In the automation or campaign, click Add an Action, then choose the Send Template action.
In the WhatsApp Template panel, choose Create from existing approved template, then select the template to copy.
Click Create from this template. An editable copy is created.
Edit the text, then click Submit to send it to Meta, or Save draft to finish it later.
Once the copy is approved, connect the new node in place of the old one in your flow, then delete the old node.
The WhatsApp Templates page (click your team name, then Settings > WhatsApp Templates) has a Duplicate button:
it opens a new template prefilled with the content and name of the original;
when you submit it, the template goes straight to Meta's review, without a draft step;
this page only lists templates created outside automations and campaigns.
Change the name and the text before you submit, to avoid a rejection as a duplicate.
