Meta reviews every template before allowing it to be sent. A rejected template shows the Rejected badge in Kanal. A rejection is usually quick to fix once you know the cause.
Find the rejection reason
Kanal does not display the rejection reason. Meta shows it in two places:
in the notification email sent by Meta.
The most common rejection reasons
A product or content prohibited by WhatsApp's policies: alcohol, CBD, tobacco, weapons, sexual or medical content, for example.
A variable at the start or end of the message: the text must not start or end with a variable.
Badly placed variables: two variables next to each other with no text in between, or too many variables for a short text.
A shortened link: URLs such as bit.ly or tinyurl are rejected. Use the full address of your store.
Ambiguous content: typos, text that makes no sense out of context, or a template that is too generic. Meta must understand what the message is about just by reading the template.
A duplicate: a template whose body and footer are identical to those of an existing template is rejected.
Fix a rejected template
Open the automation or campaign that uses the template, then click the rejected template node.
Click Edit, then choose to edit the content.
Fix the text based on the reason given by Meta, then click Submit.
The "Create from this template" button only exists for approved templates: it does not appear on a rejected template. For details on each option, see How to edit or duplicate a WhatsApp template?
Appeal a rejection
If you think the rejection is a mistake, you can file an appeal with Meta from Business Support Home. Meta makes its decision within 24 hours.
Effect on your campaigns
Campaigns that use a rejected template are paused. Once the template is fixed and approved, resume the campaign from its page with Resume.
