When a sale goes through a marketplace (Amazon, Cdiscount, Fnac, Temu...), the platform usually handles its own customer relationship and notifications. An extra WhatsApp message sent by Kanal can confuse the buyer and cost you unnecessary sends.
This guide explains how to filter these orders out of your Kanal flows using Shopify order tags.
Avoid duplicates: the customer already gets the marketplace's emails or notifications. One more WhatsApp message can feel intrusive.
Control your budget: every WhatsApp message has a cost. Keeping your automations for direct customers improves your return on investment.
For Kanal to identify where an order comes from, the order must carry a specific tag in Shopify. Most marketplace connector apps add this tag automatically. For example:
an Amazon order may carry the tag "Amazon" or "Marketplace";
a Fnac order may carry the tag "Fnac".
Before setting up Kanal, open a marketplace order in your Shopify admin and write down the exact tag name.
This method applies to automations triggered by an order: Post Purchase and Shipment Update.
In the editor, right after the trigger (for example Post Purchase), click Add an Action and select Conditions.
Click the Conditions node and set the rule:
Condition: Filter on order tags.
Operator: Is excluded.
Value: the exact tag name found in Shopify (for example Marketplace).
The condition is true when the tag is not on the order. Tags are read from Shopify at the moment the contact reaches the node.
To exclude several marketplaces, add one "Is excluded" rule per tag, each in a separate block: blocks are combined with AND, so the order is excluded as soon as it carries one of the tags.
The node shows two outputs:
Yes, conditions are met: orders without the marketplace tag, meaning your direct orders. Connect the rest of the flow (your template) to this output.
No, conditions are not met: orders with the marketplace tag. Leave it unconnected: with no next node, the flow stops for these customers.
For every new order:
Kanal reads the order tags in Shopify;
if the marketplace tag is there, the flow stops at the Conditions node;
if the tag is missing, the flow goes on to the WhatsApp message.
This way, only customers who ordered directly from your Shopify store receive your automated messages.
